Hi everyone, I'm replacing the rocker cover gasket on my '74 Midget. Any opinions on using a gasket dressing on there? What type, if any? The PO had gobs, and I do mean gobs, of RTV silicone on there

Forma-gasket has a red very sticky dressing that works very well to hold the cork gasket to the valve cover. other than that, I wouldn't use any dressing between the head and the valve cover gasket.

The best set-up seems to be: Good quality gasket dressing (applied properly) between the gasket and the valve cover. A thin smear of grease between the gasket and head. That way the gasket will seal

I use 3M Weatherstripping Adhesive (aka yellow elephant snot) to glue the gasket to the rocker (valve) cover. This at least ensures the seal between the gasket and the cover is good and that the gask

I just use a skim coating of RTV Silicone that I spread thinly with my finger on the valve cover gasket. The old mechanic who has my ear stresses that no dressing beyond a thin coat of white lithium
