Dear List: Strictly speaking, let's say you were presented with a vehicle which had been out of service for some time. (Such as my '68 Sprite) I understand that they were originally positive earth. B

If it has the sticker that says it's wired as negative ground there would be no reason to assume that it's positive ground. (A lot of people convert positive grounds to negatives, but I've never hear

I believe, the last year that was positive ground was 67. That's the way it is with the B's and BGT's soooooo I would venture to guess you have a first geration negative ground vehicle... Someone ple

This may help... or not.... we try. If there is an alternator, then it is negative ground necessarily. BUT, a generator could be either. You may be fortunate to have an ignition coil marked + and -..

There is a generator. There was no wiring between the coil and the LT circuit, I had to fabricate new connections. After doing so, I was getting a spark at the points. Would that be possible with the

Yes.... you'd get spark at the points, the coil fires weakly, and the car runs poorly, but it will run if polarity is reversed on the coil. There's a test for that. Perhaps someone else can suggest a

Be careful here, if the body panel that the sticker was on was replaced with a panel of later vintage the sticker could be wrong for the car. Been there........ Kevin

OK, coil SW=connection to power (switch), CB= connection to points (contact breaker). All wiring diagrams I have, these are in pos grnd cars. If run in Neg grnd cars, just reverse the connections and

You will get spark with a reversed coil, slightly reduced I would think. Not as a definite suggestion but just a bit for greater minds to discuss, could it be determined by the direction the starter

According to Horler, "A change from positive to negative earthing occurred at HAN9-72034 and GAN4-60441..." This occurred at November of '67. So, if your can number is higher, then you have a negati
