I guarantee it's not a V6. I bought one on the promise of better fuel economy. It wasn't worth it. I can pull a trailer, but every time I climb a hill, the Check Engine light comes on. Faugh! EcoBoos

If you like the truck you have (other than the smell!), I'd recommend another one. I believe GM updated their trucks in 2007 with the 6-speed transmission that should net you better mileage and help
