I've always unzipped as suggested in my owner's manual but yesterday I
tried not unzipping the window.  Even with the roll bar (narrower
version) and speakers mounted on the shelf, the top folded nicely with
the window zipped.  I was surprised to find that it folds better zipped
than it does unzipped.  As suggested, a piece of flanel or soft cotton to
protect the windows would make it even better.
