Walt---Ideally, the tach cable should not cross over the top of the fuel
pump, but skirt around the edge. If you like, you can remove the
distributor and its pedestal. Reach down, lift up and turn the
distributor drive gear one or two teeth clockwise. Move the oil pump dog
the same amount so that it lines up with the gear slot, as you lower the
gear into its new position. Now, when you reinstall the pedestal and
distributor, the tach cable will be away from the fuel pump. The cable
will still have to make a turn to get thru the firewall, but it won't be
a sharp one. Your ignition timing will not be effected by all of this,
as the rotor and cap remain in the same relative position to each other.

It's a good idea to do this repositioning with the engine stopped with
#1 piston on TDC, and the rotor pointing directly at #1 plug tower, just
for reference.

Don't remember what seals the top of the pump bolt.
