Dick,

It would appear that you may be right! The info was rather vague!, but I
attributed to this to the fact that a "supposed" TR affectionado with
limited technical knowledge may be having a brief moment of despair. Oh
well! So goes the internet!

Best Regards,

Jim

Ji---Call me synical, but I'm starting to believe that "Mike" is having
fun with us. I'm wondering why he's still offering up vague
possibilities of what happened to his engine. Surely the shop where he
had his car taken would know by now.

Changing the rocker ratio as you did had to increase stress, loss of
some mechanical advantage, and all. There's plenty of room for the
pushrods to go sideways without contacting anything, as you surmised.

I guess we'll have to wait to see if any real conclusion is offered as
to what broke the 'rods.

I don't think a piston can make contact with an open valve in these
engines, unless the valve keeper popped off, or a total collapse of both
springs allowed it to drop thru the head. I recall lots of room here.

It would be difficult for the rocker shaft to be installed wrong, unless
the screw that holds the shaft from turning was left out. I guess
anything's possible with an engine that failed...if it failed!

Good to talk with you.

Dick
