I missed the first part of this thread so sorry if my suggestion has already
been covered. One thing I'd do before any further worrying is confirm the
car's volt gauge is showing the correct voltage. Perhaps it's a little
inaccurate and you really have what you think you should have without
knowing it. A cheap multi meter would do the trick.
