When you drive, you are getting a low pressure region behind the
car. This fills with exhaust fumes and these are in turn pulled into the
car. Be certain that your trunk weather stripping is good, and that the
trunk lid is getting a good seal.
Are you running a non-stock exhaust? Depending on the exit
location of the exhaust tips, you can create a problem with non-stock
exhaust.
The problem may be worse because you are running rich(?) . You
mentioned the exhaust dirt, which sounds like a rich mixture...
Just some thoughts....

I am getting exhaust fumes in the car when I have the top up and windows
closed or just a small gap, drivers side. The trunk gets pretty smelly
as
well. What gives? I have put fresh grommets everywhere, I have checked
for
leaks from the exhaust manifold. The pipes have been welded all the way
to the
muffler. As my car is all white, I get major exhaust dirt on the tail.
Any
thoughts. The top is up and windows closed as its sometimes 32 deg. when
I am
on my way to work in the morning. Going faster doesn't help guys!!!
