Rich,
Inside the threaded collar is a grease seal and a steel circlip which
retains the collar behind the splines. To remove the circlip over the
splines takes a bit of care with needle nose pliers. Once the circlip is
out of the way the splines easily separate. But, if you do not feel any
grittiness or binding you might want to leave well enough alone. There may
be a source for replacement circlips amd seals but the larger suppliers do
not list it, nor are the two parts even shown in the Triumph factory parts
diagrams.
