Vance;

I think I am narrowing down my problem. I now have a reasonable (I expect
some lumpiness) idle at 950-1000 rpm and good acceleration. Even with my
miss.

What I have found/done so far:
        - cracked distributor housing on the original distributor and
excessive wear on the replacement; combined to make one reasonable
alternative.
        - faulty anti-run on valve causing intermittent vacuum leak;
bypassed run on valve, this greatly smoothed the idle.
        - miss on plug 1, can be seen using timing light. Plug 6 shows
stable timing (as stable as can be expected with a 30+ year old dizzy).
Replaced cap, rotor, plug wire, plug - no solution to the miss yet.

For you numbers guys: before modifications: 59 hp rear wheels, 55 ft lbs
torque. After modifications: 120 hp rear wheels, 125 ft lbs torque. Once
everything is completed (fuel injection to come) I will post the dyno
results.

        Dave:

        The symptoms you are describing are all consistent with a lumpy
camshaft. I looked up the specs for the GP2 camshaft, and IMHO it is too
much if you want a decent idle. When you added the 1.65 roller rockers
to it, you made it even worse. The soggy bottom end, the refusal to idle
decently, sluggishness up to 2k RPM are all part and parcel of a large a
cam. If you autocross, then this may be what you wanted, but the fact
that you complain about it in your note says that you got more than you
bargained for.

        Vance
