If you have an aftermarket valve cover it is likely that it does not have an
internal baffle as does the stock valve cover. If you have no baffle the vacum
from the carbs get an extra opportunity to suck the extra oil from the external
oiler into the carbs and past them to the charcoal canister. In addition to
fabricating a baffle for my aftermarket valve cover I reduced the size of the
oil line with the head of a pop rivet. I have Richard Good's roller rockers
with which he recommends using the external oiler so have not switched back to
the original oiling method. I may eventually have to do this since even after
fabricating a baffle and reducing the oil passage size I have been unable to
competely stop oil from coming out around the cap on the valve cover. Some
people have suggested blowby from the pistons on my obviously wounded engine so
I'm hoping the new "fresh" engine will take care of the problem.

In regard to the new engine I finally got the pistons installed and am
awaiting the arrival of a new timing chain and gears and a new oil pump. All
it takes is cubic $$$$$.
