You could one of two things:
1. (what I would do) take the engine to a machine shop and have it hot
tanked. $20-40 and will leave your engine spotles and release all parts
glued by old lubricant.
2. Use a strong oil based solvent (ie laquer thinner or even mineral spirits)
and spray everything down well and let them sit over night . An old
toothbrush would help.
I would avoid anything caustic or water based except mayby simple green
