I hate to be the one to burst-your-buble, but there are no aftermarket
racing parts available for the Rootes engine. If you are lucky, you
might find some old high-compression pistons and an old racing cam (or
regrind one), but you are out of luck. Actually, I think we are lucky
that we can get replacement parts from Curt/Rick/and Long's to just get
our engines running for daily transportation! To rebuild an 1600/1725
will cost about $1200 just in parts and shop labor. To get more HP is
going to cost more than what you paid for your whole car. Some things
that you want to improve on, is the carburation and ignition. I
recommend the 34/36 Weber carb on a series IV manifold and the Pertronix
solid-state point kit for the distributor. Even these bolt on mods will
cost about $500.
