Machinists are like girlfriends. You get a good one, there's nothing like it!
You get a bad one, there's nothing like it!

Fortunately, in the Reno/Sparks, Nevada area there is Superior Machine. Allan
Lawrence and Augie Steinmetz are two of the best I've ever met. As Lou says,
many of them are only interested in the 350 Chevy stuff. Easy enough to figure
out: it's their 'bread and butter'. Allan is a 'geek' on bottom ends;
balancing and machining (also looks like Wierd Al Yankovic's twin brother).
Augie is a head, valve and flow specialist. Between the two of them I'm
convinced nobody is better. That comes with a price, though. If you need it
done cheaply or by the end of next month, go somewhere else...... they are too
busy! On the other hand, if you have the time to wait for them, there's an old
proverb I learned long ago in the Army: "There's never time to do it right but
always time to do it over!". Al and Auggie get it right the first time!! And
contrary to what Lou said, Al and Auggie 'live' for the opportunity to do the
'exotic stuff'.

Together they opened Superior Machine, following career's of machining and
maintaining fuel dragsters on professional race teams. Their knowledge of what
'goes on inside an engine', and how to extract power from an engine is obvious
when you just talk to them. Their machine work speaks for itself!

Word of mouth is the best advertising money CAN'T buy! If your close enough to
the area, they are:
    Superior MAchine
    380 Freeport Blvd, #16
    Sparks, NV 89431
    (775) 358-4004
        Carl

To add to this, please be careful of machine shops! To my dismay, I have
discovered that they really are only interested in the machining of Chevy
350 stuff, and many just don't have the ability to handle "exotic" stuff. I
just had some machine work done on an engine, only to discover that even
though I made a booklet with very specific instructions, along with photos
of the final product, the machine shop still made 4 errors, some of them
that I would consider amateur! This was all done by a shop that came highly
  recommended!

If you can send out the parts and have them done by someone who knows what
they are doing, I think it is worth it. I will be doing the same next time.
