We went through this process for a '99 Miata Sport - looking for 15x6
wheels, 4x100 bolt pattern. The factory offset on the '99 Miata wheels is
40 - what you're looking for. The 15x6 wheels used on earlier Miatas is
45mm. Neither type is easy to find, and I understand the centerbore is
smaller on a Mazda.
BUT, the 93-95 Mazda MX3-GS has 15x6 wheels with a 45mm offset and these go
fairly cheap (~250-300). The 1995 ones are lighter (13.75lbs vs ~15) but
will probably have the centerbore issue - should be able to get that
machined to fit for not too much.
The other vehicle to look for wheels from is the Nissan NX2000 - they had
15x6 and 4x100 bolt pattern - 40mm offset I think. Probably not light, but
would work.
Oh, on VW's, the 90-92 Jetta GLI had 15x6 wheels, but I think the offset is
33mm, so not legal. BTW, you only get 1/4" on each side - for a total of
1/2" per axle.
Check local wrecking yards for any/all of the above...
We found a few aftermarket wheels in 15x6, but not easy to do and either
heavier than sin or expensive (Panasport, for example.)
