The point is to start as hard as you can.  Whatever makes sense.  Certainly 
if there is a 90 degree turn 10 ft from the start, a true Pro start won't 
work.  That said' if you can get to 2nd (or a least a head of steam) before 
the first brake or lift, then go for it.

It has to make sense for the course in question.   After seeing a 2 to 3 
tenth difference at sixty feet (Pro practice) I learned the start can make or 
break a run.  Quite often that first turn (transition) is the most important 
part of the course.
