Chuck, that is crazy. Why would anybody who discusses
the cost of things spend that much money? I am an
official BCS (broke-a$$ college student) and I do
count my pennies and I have probably spent that much
in the 4 years I have been autocrossing, including the
cost of my car. Maybe there are many competitors that
spend that much money but it's probably because they
have enough not to worry about it too much. Here is
my break down of car setup costs and last season
costs.

shocks................................$500
swaybar...............................$125
K&N air filter.........................$40
extra set of stock wheels.............$100
steel braided brake lines.............$100
brake pads.............................$80
trailer hitch and wiring harness......$225
2 alignments......................4 pizzas
air powered tire machine off ebay.........
.............to mount my own tires....$200
Supertrapp muffler....................$120
Travel & entry fees(gas,hotel).......$1000
10 tires.............................$1500
------------------------------------------
Total................................$3990

Even if you don't work in a pizza place and have a
friend who works at a tire shop to do your alignments
$500 a year is insane. Get one done at the beginning
of the year. Adjust from there if you need to, and
maybe one more before nationals if you feel uneasy
about driving with the alignment you have been driving
on all year. Why would one need 3 sets of wheels?
And please don't include your lost income.

I am no national champion but I would wait on spending
that much money until I was in atleast the top 85
percent in my class. I would almost bet that a top
ten driver with your expensive setup will be a top ten
driver with a setup like mine.

P.S. please add $0.50 for that time I had to pay for
air to fill up my tires.
