Scott:

Paying for the V700s upfront is to ensure the return of the V710s. Upon
receipt of the V710s (which will be picked up by UPS at no cost to you),
a full credit for the charge of the V700s will be applied back to your
credit card, effectively erasing the "cost" of their purchase. Receipt
of the returned V710s will also generate a standing order for a no cost
replacement set of the revised V710s, when they become available.

This process is intended to give you a set of V700 tires now to keep you
driving, and another set of the revised V710 tires when they become
available. By refunding the purchase cost of the V700s when the used
V710s are returned, the only expense you are left with is your original
purchase cost of the original V710s. This effectively costs you for only
one set of tires, but in the end you will have received two, a set of
V700s and a replacement set of V710s when they become available. Having
the use of two sets of tires for the cost of one should help cover the
expense of mounting and balancing.

If you feel that the V700s are not going to be competitive while you
wait for the revised V710s to become available, you can always sell the
set of V700 temporary replacement tires locally to fund your purchase of
tires from another brand. Nothing says you have to use the V700s while
you wait for the revised V710s.

You could also just return your used (or even completely worn out) V710
tires for a full refund, but then you will not be eligible for a no cost
set of the revised V710 tires when they become available. This will zero
out your cost, and the value of the use of the V710s you have already
received should help cover your mounting and balancing cost. If you
would like to pursue this option, please contact our Customer Service
department at 800-428-8355 x360.

The choice is up to you.

Yes, I've already "paid" for my V710's, so there is nothing free about
the replacements.
I got a letter from the TireRack yesterday and they want you to order
the V700 using your own CC and once the V710s are returned to them they
will credit your account for the amount of the V700 purchase. I've got
my tires off the rims so they are ready to be sent back but before I do
so I need to iron out a few details. I don't think any of this should
be costing me any money. I'm going to be sending back practically new
tires.

I like Kumho, I really do, but if there aren't competitive replacements
for my vehicle then I have no choice but to use Hoosiers for National
events until the V710's are returned. I could use the replacements for
local events, or perhaps another set of rain tires?
