Well, folks, we are looking good yet again, as Ray Miller as given himself a
.3 headstart in B Street Prepared, with Ken Yeo in 5th and Vic Sias, in the
lone 240Z in 7th. It was thought for sure that this would be a shoot out
between Guy Ankeny, Daniel Popp, and Duke Langley. Well, who ever thought
that was just plain WRONG.
Bill Sanford, a surprise BSP entrant from Oceanside, is in 4th.
Meanwhile, Malibu Mike Lella is .044 out of first in B Modified behind Eric
Pettigrew of Kentucky.
In A Stock, Gary Thomason's got a firm grip on the field in his Honda,
leading by .4 over Paul Kozlak, Porsche. Lynne Rothney-Kozlak, Porsche, my
idol, is in third. None of these people are from SFR, but Andy McKee is, and
he's holding strong in 4th in the fastest Toyota of the bunch. He's about .6
off of Thomason, so the door is still open, but I have to tell you, one of
my happiest moments of my life happened last year after day one at Nats in B
Stock. I somehow managed 2nd for the day, and guess who of all people, Lynne
Rothney-Kozlak, this woman I have only idolized from afar, came up and
introduced herself to me. Lynne Rothney-Kozlak shook my hand. I was just
gleaming inside. So, forgive me for deserting my club, my people, as I just
say that I hope Lynne Rothney-Kozlak WINS!
And speaking of that sisterly solidarity, it appears our own Teresa Neidel
had some cone problems on her third run that would have put her up into the
trophies, and definately within striking distance. So, let's all send some
positive vibes her way.
A Stock, in my opinion, is THE toughest class. I've just been scrolling down
the results, noticing all the past national champs who aren't even in the
trophy hunt. If you compete in A Stock, you have my deepest respect.
A Prepared Ladies. That's it. There must be something wrong with L'il
Stroker. On the other hand, the good news is that there was this surprise
entrant, Karen Rafferty, in a Street Modified Supra. I do not know what the
deal us, but she suddenly switched to A Prepared. Did she think it would be
easy or something? Well, ha HA, as Paulette Nagler is a full 1.4 second lead
over the hotshoe Rafferty who is a contender in any class. So, even though I
guess momma will have to wait another year for her comeback, Paulette a good
ol' gal herself, is certainly earning her victory.
Up next, the good ol' boys in B Prepared demonstrate the might of California
Corvettes as Sarah Keyser makes a go of it in F125 Ladies. In her second
autocross ever. She wins my vote for the Courage Award.
And let's not forget Choc Balmaceda and Soebiantoro Soekamto in the cone
colored Acura in Street Touring S. Hey, this isn't just their first
nationals. It's the first time they've left California!
