Glenn,

I think you are getting too wrapped up in the "street legal" aspect of SM.
There is nothing in the SM rules that says the car needs to be street legal.
It only needs to be registered.  As long as the car has a valid registration
(yes, you need to be nicer to your buddy with a smog machine) you can do
anything that the rules allow.  That means you can take the cat out if you
want to.  Heck, I ran with no muffler on the car at the Nationals.
