Peter,

That is usually owners preference.  Some people prefer the
AMC others the Ford.  Both drivetrains are still well
supported
with aftermarket parts.  Both are equally safe.  There are
only
small differences between the 2.  The 74 (AMC) has a little
more power from the factory.

The big drawback to the 75 currently is the motor mounts are
about unobtainable and no one has come up with a work around
(at leat that has been made public).
