Have you tried a decreasing detergent?  I've found that Simple Green
and a scrub brush does a dandy job of removing tree goop.  Don't know
if Simple Green is sold in the UK but I'm sure you can find
something equivalent.  Check the household cleaning section.  Something
else that will probably work is trisodium phosphate (yes, I use if for
everything) if you can find it.  It's often referred to as TSP and is
usually found in hardware or paint supply stores.  Spic And Span, a
popular household cleaner, contains TSP.  Wear gloves, this stuff is
hard on the skin.
