This following was put on the autox list by the REAL Roger Johnson in the
spring of '93. I can't imagine that either he nor the originator would
object to its use here.

The following was created by Clifford Chamberland.
I am not familiar with the legislation that it refers to, but if
this is indeed in the works, it could be a source of irritaion
for MANY racers who dont want to part with thier favorite Z-Car
or MGB or Camaro, etc. So... I thought that I would pass it on

         Honorable Patty Murry
         United States Senate
         Washington DC. 20510

         Dear Senator Murry,

This letter is to voice my strong opposition to any and
all legislation which would encourage the scrapping of pre-
1980 motor vehicles for environmental or economic reasons.

I urge you to vote NO to any legislation that is not
in the best interest of the millions of old car enthusiasts
and would destroy a multibillion dollar industry made up of
thousands of small businesses supplying these enthusiasts.

I urge you to vote NO to any proposal that would
penalize or unjustly tax owners of older vehicles in any way
shape or form, restrict operation, ownership and the right
to drive and enjoy these automobiles. These automobiles are
in most cases kept in top notch shape and are driven
relatively few miles each year, therefore they have a
         negligible effect on the environment.

Please do not let poorly thought out legislation
destroy the specialty car industry like luxury tax on yachts
         did the boating industry.

              Sincerely,
