Hi Gavin,
sure sounds like you have a float level problem. Either the
needle valve is not always seating or perhaps you simply have too high
a fuel pressure. The SU's like no more that 3psi in my experience.
Do you have a recirculating system? A regulator?
Did you weaken or richen the RHS carb to get it to idle - this would
tell you whether you have too much or too little fuel in the float
chamber.
