An often more effective version of this proceedure uses 2 big hammers. (Oh,
boy, 2!) You hold one firmly aside of the joint, and then WHACK the other
side with the second. This will usually cause the taper pin topop loose, due
to the shock/distoration. It is often faster than messing with a
puller/seperator, won't maul the threads or nut, and will not shred the
rubber boot either! But, no half-hearted effort here,  You gotta hit it good,
hard, and solid. And, no, it won't hurt the parts.
