There is a bowl in front of the carbs that receives the fuel from the fuel pump.

At the bottom of this bowl there is a line that is about an inch and a half
long with a wound steel protective sheaf that goes to the front carb.

This line is loose at the bowl. The line has a metal tube that goes into a
hole in the bottom of the bowl. This is the connection that leaks - big
time.

I don't know what is wrong. This metal tube is not a tight fit into the
bowl. Maybe it is supposed to be soldered into the bowl and has broken
loose. Or, perhaps, there is supposed to be a thin sleeve that fits over
this tube to seal it to the hole in the bowl.

Can someone tell me how this tube is supposed to fasten to the bowl? Any
suggestions for repair?

The carb is a HS-4. The Moss catalog says the bowl is the float chamber.
The line I am having trouble with is not shown in Moss. The line does show
in a picture on page 51 of Chilton, Repair and Tune-up Guide, MG 1961 to
1980. But it does not show me anything about how the connection is
supposed to be sealed.

BTW the car also needs a new water pump. I am not expecting any problems
with that, but if anyone has any tips, comments on replacing it i would
appreciate your help.

(The only trouble with Internet is I can't buy a six pack, invite you over
to watch, and con you all into actually fixing this stuff. Maybe I could
go with a virtual repair.)
