>This last weekend netter Joe Goeke and I took our Miatas to the Mountain
Home CMC
>street solo in Mountain Home, Idaho. Netters Scott Stone (BS MR-2 from
Utah) and
>Curtis Eames (944 S2 from Boise)... we met up with Jennifer Heitman from
Oregon Region

First, for the record, I didn't attend the San Fran DIV, but I heard it
lacked much in the way of how to run an event. So with that, I'd like to
say that this was a fun event (something about street solos....), but really
needs some serious overhauling in the planning and operating stages. I'm
not impressed with CMC's ability to design a course. The first day started
like a Three Stooges episode. They moved cones after walk throughs, added
cones after a run or two, and finally totally re-designed the course
(removed 180) and started over. It was now 11:30. If it wasn't for the low
turnout, we would have been there till dark (10pm). The second day was an
IDENTICAL course...What was the point of running two days?

The 180 Alan talked about was a disaster from the start, which I can't
believe was there in the first place. In a nut shell the 180 was in a
double lane road with the outer radius cones up NEXT TO the 6" CURB! Even
if you could make the radius, you would have to drive towards the outer
cone/curb to start and finish this mess. I like to think I know my brake
points, but one blown brake run and BAM there's a biff into the curb. I
didn't get to drive it, but now that I think of it I should have realized
this nonsense up front and mentioned it. I guess I'm use to seeing great
course designs, and this one was a joke!

Even with the 180, the course was a yawner. The revised course was just a U
with only a couple of finesse areas. First block was a virtual straight,
tricky 90 into 2nd block slalom (nice), another 90 into a 3 cone 100 ft.
slalom (yawn again), 90 into another 100 ft. slalom (I'm asleep) then a
reeeeaaal tight box (beyond challenging...Hated it...), then a straight to a
fun offset slalom finish (fun!).

I thought last years courses and event (planned primarily by Boise region)
was much superior to this years comical event.

>With Joe and I having white and blue Miatas and Jennifer with her red
>Miata we thought we looked appropriate for the 4th of July weekend :-).

This was awesome. If only we had little American flags to put on our
antennas, we would have stolen the show! ---JCG.
