RE- Freaky Clutch ('72 Midget)
Hi Marcus:
Your error is in trying to apply logic to the assembly
of the clutch slave cylinder :^)
Actually, the spring inside the bore of the cylinder is
primarily to make sure the rubber cup seal stays snugly next
to the piston. I assume the throw out bearing will always
rub lightly against the clutch release fingers since the
spring does, as you noted, apply some pressure to force the
piston outward. This I believe is part of the self-adjusting
nature of a hydraulic clutch. The piston is always held in a
position such that it is ready to release the pressure plate.
Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it until
one of the real experts proves me wrong, in which case I
never said such a thing.
