I had a clogged flexible/rubber line on my Jag that would allow
pressure/fluid through but not return. I could engage the clutch
but it would very slooowly disengage. Frequently there is a flexible
line between the chasis and the tranmission. Over time and if PO
uses fluids other than brake fluid this line can swell shut.

As someone else has posted, if the clutch never operates correctly
then the clutch disk may be installed incorrectly.
