Hi Keith:
Close, but oh so far! Depending upon which part of Maui you're in,
you could be as close to me as (less than) 100 mi (as the sea gull
flies). Maui is great, but the Big Island is really the one, "no ka
'oi". By west Maui, I expect you're in the Lahaina, Kaanapali area
which is a little further, but with the intervening ocean, doesn't
make much difference :-).

I wonder if that isn't 120k or 220k? An average of less than
600mi/yr.? I had more than 25,000 on my 67.5 on Oahu, before taking
it to the mainland in 1970.

I used to know of 4 others on the Big Island, but one went to the
mainland, another I suspect has died, because it wasn't well cared
for, and I haven't seen the other two for years. I was able to
contact several and tried, unsuccessfully, to "get them on the list",
and have seen no other roadsters, as I say, for years. Haven't been
on the Hilo side, for a long time - there might be one or two lurking
over there.
Unfortunately, there is no one else on any of the Hawaiian Islands,
other than myself, on the Datsun Roadster e-mail list, and there
hasn't been since I joined it in 1996.

Keith, I would love to have you visit, and discuss Hawaii, carbs and
roadsters if you do get over to this island. Think my carbs are
finally okay - I finally have solved my "too rich" condition, as
attested by Colortune, spark plug appearance, and performance. BUT,
the nozzles are both "cranked all the way up". I achieved the final
increment of improvement by replacing the air filter!! (That was
after I had purchased new nozzles which I have yet to install).
Maybe, after I do that, I'll achieve some measure of "adjustability",
to the leaner direction--like if I want to try for the top of Mauna
Kea, again :-).
Have a great time on Maui. These big winter swells/surf we've been
having (great for surfers), may be degrading swimming conditions in
the Kaanapali area, as they are in Kona, at this time. But, if you go
over to Keihi, on the south - things should be good.
