I think the warning is for breaking a nut loose. Sometimes the torque can
be much higher on a wrench when breaking a nut loose than it was tightening
it down.

Fair enough but I still don't see why the warning to never do it. You would
think that if it was bad for the wrench then there would be seperate right
and left thread wrenches. No?
