Rods

Two years ago when I first built my engine I investigated purchasing
"good" rods from three different manufacturers.

Carillos are the standard against which others are compared. They would
have cost about $800 for the four, at that time.

The other two companies told me that the problem was that Triumph rods
are thicker (wider rod bearings) than any of the domestic forgings they
made, so obviously couldn't be made from forgings made on existing
tooling.

Those two manufacturers would have made rods from plate of the proper
steel chemistry and thickness, but by the time they did this, the cost
was very nearly the cost of Carillos.

Breaks my heart (or wallet). I went to a swap meet this weekend where
lots of Carillos for V8's were available for prices like $500 for eight,
which would of course be around $250-300 for a four banger, a much more
palatable price.

Maybe somebody should try a quantity purchase for us all.
