Actually it does, the reason for hanging the lime off the edge of the bottle
is that the lip of the bottle, being very rounded, will distribute a charge
evenly, enabling a potentially large static charge to build up with
obviously painful results (what could be more painful than getting zapped on
the lips and then spilling your beer). The sharp edges of the wedge-cut lime
bleed away most of the static, while a weak electrolytic action between the
acidic lime juice and the metal ions trapped in the cheap glass bottle
provide a small current flow that discharges the rest. The tingle you feel
when you push the lime into the bottle neck is the result of increased
current flow from a sudden rush of lime electrolyte.

I thought the Corona effect had something to do with the lime
slice hanging on the edge of the bottle!
