As a very new member to FOT ( last week ) I'm sorry I didn't get to
meet more of you at Breckenridge. As a host member I had to work the rally
and the banquet in addition to entertaining various members of my family
that came up to visit. In my spare time I was trying to hold off Joe and
John for FTD in the autocross. They actually let me hold it for a short
period of time ( white TR4 #223 ). Great fun !!
I'm glad to hear you all enjoyed the event and got home safely. On
behalf of Rocky Mountain Triumph Club I would like to thank all of the
attendees for coming out. Without people like you the event would not have
been a success.
I'm enjoying the exchange of info and hope to meet some of you at
Mid-Ohio next year.
If in Colo. Springs look me up.

Charles was always knee deep in the Roadster store.... the Moss
brothers
convinced me I need another toy (thread restorer)...Terry Baldwin
and the
gang at Rimmer Bros are putting out a new TR2/3 catalogue that looks
great in
preview form (and I received the preview draft by the time I got
home)....and
we got to meet Larry Lederman of Lederman Rupp who makes the finest
regalia
outfitting bar none. My first Lederman product was a TR logo leather
bottom
carpenters bag which I bought in the 70's and have carried
everything from
tools to rocks to beer in over the years (all Triumph stories for
another
time) and am due for a shiny new one for more show (Joanne is
getting me one
for our anniversary - Yeah!! what a gal!!).
Thanks to Vernon for the board meeting update. Sorry I couldn't get
there any
sooner and missed it by a few hours.......and congratulations as
President
elect of VTR!!!
Hi again to Jim Jennings and gang and I'll try to get that grill
badge to you
as well as the zone and chapter charter forms ASAP.
Looked for Joe but missed you and looked for Tim Smith too.
(Tim.....Had the
labels in my luggage for you once again......will have to breakdown
and buy
that $50 cent stamp after all...smile).
Mr Korbin was busy collecting vin numbers and the McElliotts TR-Ford
(302
TR4) had no problem smoking about everything between LA and
Breckenridge.
(The TR4 Rallye vents are a nice touch Steve). Bob and Lynn Klope
were there
from Fresno and I was happy to tell Bob VTR has accepted their
application
for zone status as a future chapter, and we found a source in San
Jose for
Vredestein tires for the TR6 which I have been looking for for two
years from
a nice couple from Traveler's whom name I managed to misplace
(thanks again).
I couldn't catch up with the owner of the shiny TR10. Emphasis on
"shiny" as
the ones I saw in Minnesota a couple or VTR nat'ls back I could
almost read
thru (light weight eastern racing version I was told by the wild
Scotsman
that owned it...smile. His license frame read "Not a babe
magnet!"....and he
meant the car!!).
Cars and more cars as I understand the reg's tallied over 225 cars.!
(That's
the size or Triumphest in Ventura 1990 for western FOT reference)
and a great
collection of license plates. We counted 16 states on a simple walk
across
the lot.
Oh yeah...that walk. I did get altitude poisoning ( or alt sickness
some call
it) and was completely out of it on Fri after a night I care to
forget (and I
can't blame it on a guiness as the local Irish Pub was closed by the
time we
were done in the hot tub party and the grocery stores had folded
too). Just
over did our first day. The desk clerk said some get hit harder than
others.... he spent his first week on oxygen at nite to adjust...so
my one
day bought was easy according to him. I'd hate to imagine 'rough'!!
Just a footnote to first timers tho. Leave an extra day to acclimate
and
drink LOTS of water. It was the only thing that got me thru. Hope
the rest of
you all adjusted in the climb to the 9600 foot altitude. (Almost
twice as hi
as Denver!!)
Mad dogs for punishment tho, we did drive top down up the 270 degree
switchbacks (great fun!!) to the local glaciers at 10, 400 feet and
climb the
3/4 mile up to see the 'perpetual lakes' (there are five glaciers
grouped all
within a 30 minute drive of Breckenridge) and we rode the 'tallest
train
inthe world' at the Georgetown Loop that goes to Silver Plume over
the worlds
highest tressle bridge. And found that special bakery in Silver
Plume thanks
to the recommendation of the registration ladies. And yes we ordered
bread by
fedX and it arrived today 8 hours later from the oven. What a
treat!! Will
make fantastic Christmas ordering
Did we have fun?? Yep. Top down grandeur...great people. PERFECT
weather, fun
events....a really great event site. and T R I U M P H S !!
