I just got finished using the below rear seal technique and...it works!
Amazing how you can pound 10 inches of felt rope in to 3 inches of space!
Both of the gasket sets I had came with only 1 10 inch length of felt rope.
I had to use the rope out of both sets.
I will have to wait a few weeks to test the finished product.

It was my understanding that the grooves in the rear of the crank were meant
to be a thrower to retain the oil. I went through a lot of stuff to learn
how to fit the rear seals and when I did it stopped all but a very little
weeping. Here's what I did:
1. Make up a steel shaft by grinding that fits the trapezoid seal grove.
This can be an old screwdriver (large) or a piece of cold roll steel etc. It
must be long enough to go to the bottom of the groove and be roughly the
shape of the groove.
2. Cut the felt seal material into 1" pieces and soak them in your favorite
sealing compound that is not a fast dry type.
3. Insert the pieces into the groove ,usually a couple to start with a
little more sealing goo, then insert the tool and drive the seal material
down hard with a hammer. Keep doing this one or two pieces at a time until
there is just a little sticking out the groove, trim that with a razor blade
and it WILL seal.
You'll use almost twice as much material as the length of the groove.
Remember to hammer and hammer and hammer.
