I used to work for Cargill. They work really hard at keeping their employees
safe on the job, lots of training, daily reminders, etc. It got really
tiring, but we all appreciated that we were expected to go home in as good
of condition as we arrived.
There are at least a couple things I took to heart that apply to this Shop
Safety Question topic. Ear and Eye protection. Plain old acoustic earmuffs
when you are working with loud equipment, or those simple foam or plastic
ear plugs can make a big difference toward keeping your ears working well. A
little damage at a time adds up.
Eye safety is big too. Get proper safety glasses, wear them. Don't just
carry them. Also - we were required to have eyewash stations all over the
place. When a station was not located close to the work area, we carried an
"Emergency Eyewash Bottle" to the spot. I'm not going to install a permanent
eyewash station in my shop, but I did get an eyewash kit - something like
