One other solution is to use a brighter incandescent bulb. I have some in one of my Healeys, and have gotten comments that my tail lights are quite bright. The bulb number is in the 2000 series, but I can't remember exactly just which one. Maybe 2034 or 2357. Ask at your local parts place. Mine said the higher the number, the brighter the bulb.
