All the needles I've bought/used on my BJ8 don't have a "shoulder," but
a small groove around the circumference of the needle at the point where
the tapered part and the cylindrical section--the part that is embedded in
the piston--meet.
Anybody know the "proper" way to seat these needles? I now have the
needles embedded to the bottom of the groove (just before the tapered
section starts). Before, I had them embedded to the top of the groove,
which is maybe .25mm wide. I had to lean the carbs almost 2 full turns to
get the idle back--it was falling off and dying--and I think the first 1,500rpm
aren't as smooth as they used to be (will have to take a drive to verify).
