First thing that comes to mind is blockage of the little orifice or hole
that the oil pumps through to pressurize and activate the system, As I
recall there is a litle ball bearing that acts as the stop for this hole, be
careful not to lose it. I think this can be checked fairly easily if you
have the tranny cover pulled. If it has been stting a while maybe the
activity stirred up gunk or debris in the gearbox/OD and caused blockage.

Also adjustment of the solenoid lever movement could be done at this time, I
don't think that would cause the problem (because it was working and and
fairly abrubtly stopped) but it is listed as one of the maintenence chores
on the thing, so might at well check.

I remember when I first got my Hundred staying up until the wee hours of tht
night with the car up on blocks monkeying with the OD, and the thrill of
getting it go work, hope your friend is having similar fun.

Last thought, if you changed the oil in the Gearbox/OD--I had a problem
after I had my gearbox rebuilt with the OD engaging, my local mechanic, who
has worked on British stuff since the late 50s (lucky me!) suggested raising
the nose of the car when filling the box to make sure adequate oil flows
into the OD, I drained and refilled the thing and low and behold it worked.

Good Luck!
