The luggage rack I had on '67 BJ8 really made the boot lid much more rigid and
stronger! It easily carried the weight of two cases of brew.

  FWIW, I have had an AMCO rack on my BJ8 for years and used it during our
  European travels in 01 to haul a VERY heavy suitcase.  There was no
  distortion of the boot lid.
