It has to be remembered why the bulk of the 6-cylinder cars have 2 extra
seats. It's because DMH wanted to increase the market for the car to
people with families. That is for the owner who has kids. There was also
an option child seat available for the 4 cylinder cars.
If someone said that an Austin-Healey is too dangerous for kids to ride
in I would say that they should get a life and see what happens in the
real world. They probably wouldn't let kids [play in the dirt to and
spray every single inch of their homes with cleaner and disinfectant. No
wonder kids these days are so prone to illnesses.
My kids are grown up now but when younger they were riding around in the
car from the time they could sit up. I know of owners who have bought
their new born babies home from the hospital in their Austin-Healeys.
Does this way of thinking piss me off? You could say that.

This summer my car (1961 3000) has developed some difficulties engaging
gears when first started.
A couple of years ago I had a problem that sometimes after my car was
fully warmed up and I would come to a stop I couldn't get it back in
gear. Upon the suggestion of the list I changed the flexible hose from
the slave cylinder, fixing that problem.
My new situation is when I start the car up for the first time on any
given day I can't engage any gears. My work around has been to start
the car in gear back it into the driveway and let it warm up for a few
minutes. After that it seems to work ok for me. My car has 65,000
miles and the clutch/transmission is mechanically original (I think...).
Anybody else experience this or have ideas on what the problem may be?
On a completely different topic anybody out there have young kids? I
was talking to my mom recently and told her I had just bought seat belts
for the Healey in anticipation of my daughter someday going for a ride
(she is only 16 months now). Her response was, "that car is too
dangerous for a child to ride in", which happens to be exactly my wife's
opinion. I reminded her that I could remember being 5 years old and
riding in that car (no seatbelts). My dad's rule was he didn't let any
kids ride in the back seat, only one at a time. Times have changed.
Are there any opinions out there for kids riding in these cars, a
minimum age requirement....
