Jim,

Again, having a 'standard class' 3000, it didn't originally have OD. I've
since swapped in another side shifter with OD, but never bothered installing
a relay. I've driven it for 10 years, no problems that I can attribute to
not having a relay. I usually match revs and clutch when downshifting to
lessen the strain, but it's a fairly beefy unit. Triumph TR's had the same A
-type OD, and didn't use a throttle relay.

i may have stated this before, but when i lived in the portland area, a guy
who had a repair shop for british cars used to race healeys and they took
the throttle switch out(maybe relay also) and used to bang the od in and out
constantly. he stated that the od was tough and they never had a problem
with kicking it out while decelerating. i never had the guts to do it and
will not start now, but maybe someone else can back him up. healeymanjim
