I worked on a car a while back that was exhibiting similar symptoms, but it was
a late rubber bumper
MGB with various emissions stuff on it. There was one particular hill where it
alwayshad problems.
I had been over everything I could think of, and could not figure it out. So
after trying something
I took it for a road test and as usual had problems getting up this particular
hill. I pulled off to
the side, parked, and got out, walking around the car, thinking. On one trip
around the back of the
car I took the gas cap off, and as I was doing so a HUGE rush of air went into
the tank.
The main problem was a blocked vent line, so the sealed fuel system could only
let out so much gas
before the vacuum was more than the pump could handle. It ran better, but it
was still a dog ;-)
