Hello

Thank you David.

It is a 100S gearbox with a grafted overdrive. It=E2=80=99s been like that =
since it was built by the DHMC in the early 1950s. Plus a BJ8 clutch and pr=
essure plate which was there when I bought it in 1974, so heavens knows whe=
re that came from.

No problems with that previously.

Which transmission is in the BN3. If you put a later clutch cover in a 3 sp=
eed trans. The cover will hit the bell housing, only allowing the engine to=
move a little turn. Same problem on the early BN4 transmission. There is a=
casting inside the housing that if you installed the later 3000 style clut=
ch cover. It will hit and cause the problem you are explaining.

Hello

Thank you to all who replied.

It remains a mystery. I had an AH owning mechanic here today to trying a wo=
rk out what=E2=80=99s happening with the engine of the BN3.

Plugs are out as is the starter. By putting a mark on the harmonic balancer=
and the use of a large screwdriver we found out that the engine will turn =
a quarter turn and back the other way a quarter turn before it stops solid.=

So it will be a process of elimination starting with an endoscope in a few =
days. The radiator has been removed (no mean feat as it comes out via the g=
rille opening) to gain access to the crankshaft nut and timing cover.

Will keep you informed.

Hello

A problem to consider.

Went to turn the engine over in the BN3. An early C-Series six-cylinder. Re=
built about five years back, but seen next to no use.

Solenoid clicks, but no movement from the engine. Must be the battery so ch=
arged it, but no change. Tried a brand new battery, but still no movement.=

Out comes the starter and connect it straight to the battery. Whirr away on=
the floor. Perhaps the original Lucas starter is breaking down under load?=

It occurs to me to try and turn the engine over by hand. Gearbox tunnels no=
t fitted so easy to wield a large screwdriver to leaver the flywheel, after=
removing the spark plugs. It moves about six teeth of the ring gear, but n=
o more. It moves back the same in the other direction, but no further. Soon=
 lose interest in this manoeuvre.

What=E2=80=99s up? Why won=E2=80=99t the engine turn over? Thinking cap on =
and perhaps it=E2=80=99s something at the top of the engine such as valve g=
ear. Perhaps there is a bent valve?

Any opinions out there?

Many thanks
