"In direct 4th gear on a standard MGB it should read 2,000 rpm at 30
mph, or 3000 rpm at 54 mph."

I have used a GPS receiver to check the accuracy of the speedometer on
the 69 C, and an 86 Olds with over 150,000 miles on it. Much to my
surprise, both of them were accurate!. Don't forget to drill a hole in
the back of the case so you can adjust the tach without taking it apart
every time you refine the adjustment. Cover it with a piece of tape when
done.
