  The synthetic oil is a better oil, but it's also a very
good solvent. The problem occurs when the synthetic oil dissolves
all the "fudge" in your engine. Sometimes it makes it spring
leaks, sometimes it dislodges clods that plug oil galleys,
and so on.

  I'd stick to dead dinosaurs unless you have a rebuilt (and
hot tanked) engine.
