As has been mentioned the TR 2-3 engine started out as a Ferguson tractor
motor. This is true. This engine has wet sleeves that are super thick and
stout pistons go with. Real tractor stuff (meant as a compliment) I had a
friend in the Central Valley of California that when rebuilding their TR3
when down to the Tractor parts store to source pistons/linners for their
engine rebuild. (There were more tractor dealers in Fresno then LBC dealers)

As far as the coventry Climax I was told a number of years ago by a Lotus
freak that this engine came out of WW2 as a fire pump engine that was
designed to be HAND CARRIED past collapsed building / rubble to help put out
fires. This required a light weight high output engine. I have no clue if
this is true, can anyone confirm?
