Oh, no.  This could be the beginning of a filter battle.

        A few comments.  

        I think when shortening the spacers, you also have to shorten the
manifold studs too, or they hit the carb bodies.  This if I remember is a
bit involved.

        I am very lazy and prefer bolt on bits, particularily since many of
the people I seem to deal with have difficulty with basic instructions.

        I'm not a fan of the ramflo, I had one melt down my carburetor
(downdraught) and have seen many with melted elements from backfires.  Most
of my early MGB experience involved high speed dirt road driving and the K &
N filters performed extraordinarily well, so I am biased.

        Last and most important reason to bring up the K & Ns, is that I
researched them, sourced them, got em stocked and got them in the catalog.
so there!  sticking cyber tongue out.

        Seriously, it sounds like the shortened spacers and ramflos' will do
the job.  I think the K & N is a better filter, but it is much more
expensive.  What price cool?
