Assuming your latch and/or cable are not sticking and so preventing complete
closing of the latch plate, try rotating the hood pin through 90 degrees as
the sides that have been opening the latch as you close the hood these last
22 years may well have worn.  I know that turning the hood pin alters the
closed height, but 1/4 turn shouldn't change it that much.
