Hiya,

I'm back. <G> C'mon, ya missed me didn't ya. ;) hehe New steering rack in
the A. and a myriad of other small fixes. I did have to sever my left leg to
pay for the rack tho. :( Anyhoo..

I have a very annoying exhaust leak that I'm finding impossible to track
down! With the engine idling hot, I very clearly see exhaust gases escaping
from the region below the rear header pipe. It is not coming from where the
manifold meets with the head, this I have eliminated. It also isn't coming
from where the header joins the top pipe where the three studs are. I
frightened myself today, because I got on my local motorway at approx 70mph
and there was massive plumes of smoke coming out from behind the car. When I
stopped smoke filled the interior!! I'm not seeing the smoke behind me until
I get over 60mph. This is very bizarre.

I'm beginning to wonder if the manifold is cracked somewhere. When I back
off the accelerator, say going down a hill, I get a decent crack or two from
the exhaust. It's not an altogether displeasurable sound. <VBG> WooHoo! But
seriously, does this indicate a leak somewhere? The A has always been like
this, not a recent thing. I am POSITIVE it isn't manifold to head, all
gaskets are brand new etc. I've also sat under the car looking upwards with
the car running for about 1/2 hr but I still can't find the leak, all I can
see is smoke. Is anyone out there an MGA pyschic????

groan...
N.
